"And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him." Br. Samuel Babu, Believers Brethren Assembly, (BBA), Majlis - Bahrain For the last few days, we have been relentlessly praying for Br. Samuel Babu, who suffered Cardiac Problems and was admitted in Salmaniya Medical Complex, Bahrain. It was well pleasing for our Lord to call HIS child to the Eternal Home, where there is no pain, no sorrow, no tears, no sickness and no death. He went to be with the LORD around 10:30 PM Bahrain Time today (Friday 23rd 2015). Let us uphold the grieving family members to the Throne of Grace. May the Lord bestow upon them heavenly Grace, Peace and strength and console them with the word of God.

Bro. Babu Philip, Bahrain

I would appeal you to spare a few moments to read this article till its end, and I am sure that it will prove beneficial to you. Here I would like to tell you all about the person Jesus Christ, whom you might have heard or read at least something already. Your idea about Him might be  of a great leader, a revolutionary or a pious saint, and if you know this much only about Him, you need to know Him further as the Bible truly expounds.

The Bible, the most read book in the world tells us all about the person - Jesus Christ and his teachings. The first four books in the New Testament portion of the Bible deal with his birth, activities, teachings, and death and resurrection aspects. These records reveal that His birth was of unique nature. Distinct from the natural way of birth, he was born of a virgin, having no human father. To be clearer he was born of the Holy Spirit (God), without the involvement of a human father.

His life was again full of unique features. He led a perfect life, without even a single instance of sin. He did challenge the society of his time if any body could convince him of any sin. Pilate, the judge of the last court where he was cross-examined for his alleged offence couldn’t find any fault on him and said he was righteous. Many others who lived his time also testified about his perfect holy character, e.g. the army commander who has witnessed his crucifixion, one of the two thieves who were crucified along with him and the wife of Pilate, the judge. He was subjected to cross-examination before four courts one after another as to find out a reasonable cause to substantiate his crucifixion, but ended up in vain. At last the High Priests and the Jewish leaders had to accuse him of with false charges concerning their religion.  He did many miracles that were quiet beyond the capacity any human being.  He could turn pure water into quality wine, feed thousands with handful of bread loaves, heal crippled patients, calm disturbed sea and even walk over it as if walking on the firm land, and bring back life to many dead people.  Ultimately his death was also totally unique.  He was put to death by crucifixion for none of his faults, but rose back to life the third day after death.

How could a human being be so unique and live such a perfect life?  Yes, it was not at all possible had he been a mere human being like us; as Bible considers all human beings sinners.  Rather, the uniqueness in his birth, life and resurrection approves that He was true God.  On the other hand we could also see him being a man, as he experienced hunger, thirst and agony as natural with every human being.  What does it conclude? Yes, he was God who came into this world taking the form of a human being (incarnate God).  Note what Bible says about this, “In the beginning there was Word (Jesus Christ), the Word was with God and the Word was God” (John 1:1).  The Word became flesh and dwelt among us with full of grace and truth (John 1:14).

From the above we could see that God (Jesus) came into this world in the form of a human being. But, why?  Let us turn to the Bible for the answer of this question. “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief”, says Saint Paul (1 Ti 1:15).  We see here that Jesus came into this world in order to save (salvation of) sinners.  If so, who are sinners?   Bible says, “There is no difference for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God*” (Rom 3:23). Can you point out a person who has not committed any sin; like non-obedience of given laws or at least getting angry on others for whatever reasons or lying to justify him before others, etc? Of course you will not be able to indicate one. Remember Bible is the only book that categorically states that all human beings are sinners.  The human nature is prone to sin. Any person, howsoever straightforward he (she) may be is likely to commit sinful acts and thoughts at least in vulnerable circumstances. Let’s see how man inherited the sinful nature.  The first book of the Bible, Genesis narrates that God made man in his own image and likeness (sinless).  But, because of the unbelief and disobedience (sin) committed by the first man– Adam, all his descendants (the complete mankind) became sinners and inherited the sin nature (*lost the glory of God).  Accordingly they lost the fellowship with God as we see their casting away from the Garden of Eden where they used to enjoy all godly fellowship and care. It may be emphasized that men and women are sinners not because they commit sins; rather they commit sins because of their inherited sin nature that they receive from their parents at birth. This is similar to a baby snake automatically inheriting its poisonous nature at the birth itself from the parents.

God is the Most Holy and Just and his righteousness demands that the sinned man should be punished. What sort of punishment does the Man deserve for his sins? Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” .Rom 6:23. Here ‘death’ means not only the physical death, but primarily the spiritual death that separates Man from the Holy God’s communion forever (eternal) and that ultimately leads the sinners to eternal hell, a place Bible describes as a lake of fire where sinners would be cast into for unending torture and agony in the company of Satan (Devil) and his angels.

If so, what is the way out  for a sinner (all human beings) to get away from the punishment in hell or how a sinner can save himself from this horrible plight and restore his lost relationship with God as a result of man’s sin?   Yes, there is a perfect and only way that is Jesus Christ, the incarnate God.  Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (Jn 14:6). St.Paul writes in Acts that neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) Yes, he is the only way and through whom only we can attain salvation that would enable us to inherit Heaven after death and enjoy the heavenly blessings in the company of Almighty God.  Heaven is the place where one will always be in the presence of God Almighty worshipping Him and having the experience of full happiness without any pains and tears.

Let me make it again clear that the Jesus (Son of God = God) came into this world in the form of a man in order to make the way for salvation of mankind by his own sacrifice, which otherwise wouldn’t have been possible by any other means.   God wouldn’t please with any kind of good works, pilgrimage that the sinful men might offer Him.  All such attempts were just like a useless stained piece of cloth in the sight of the Holy God. In Psalms 49:7, the Bible states it clearly that, “None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him”.  So, the loving God sent out His Son Jesus Christ into the world to bring about human salvation. He thus incarnated himself and offered himself as the perfect (sinless) sacrifice, at the cross of Calvary; once for all to the utmost acceptance of the Most Holy God. Yes, the salvation of mankind was brought out with the shedding of the innocent blood of Lamb (Jesus Christ).

The salvation that brought out by Jesus Christ is free, but needs one to accept it by trusting in his lordship, to be originated from his heart and to be so declared with his mouth.  Rom 10:9 amplifies this point as “That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved”.  In other words one needs to admit that he is a sinner and repent for them and he should be totally convinced of the ransom death the Lord has accomplished on the Cross on his behalf and in his resurrection the third day afterwards. We read In John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name”.  Again in John 3:16, we read “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”.

Dear reader, if you are convinced with the above message of salvation you need to pray this prayer. “Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner and destined to be thrown into eternal hell as due reward for my sins. I believe that you are the Son of God who came into this world in order to save the mankind. I am totally convinced that you died on the cross to pay off the penalty of sin for the whole mankind including me.  I also believe in my heart that God has resurrected you from the dead. I commit myself unto your hands. Please forgive my sins and make me your child. Thank you for answering my prayer”.

If you sincerely prayed on the above lines, no doubt God has accepted you as His child and you can be sure about your eternal salvation. What is the next step? Bible says one who receives Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior is a new creation. As natural with every child any person who becomes a child of God (New creation) by accepting the lordship of Jesus Christ, also needs to keep growing (spiritually) unto the standard of Christ, the Head of the Church. For that you need to read Bible (God’s word) carefully and systematically.  It is better that you look for a local assembly of the believers (church) who truly follows and teach the correct doctrines and they will certainly guide you further.
