"And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him." Br. Samuel Babu, Believers Brethren Assembly, (BBA), Majlis - Bahrain For the last few days, we have been relentlessly praying for Br. Samuel Babu, who suffered Cardiac Problems and was admitted in Salmaniya Medical Complex, Bahrain. It was well pleasing for our Lord to call HIS child to the Eternal Home, where there is no pain, no sorrow, no tears, no sickness and no death. He went to be with the LORD around 10:30 PM Bahrain Time today (Friday 23rd 2015). Let us uphold the grieving family members to the Throne of Grace. May the Lord bestow upon them heavenly Grace, Peace and strength and console them with the word of God.

Sis. Nimmi Shabu, Bahrain

Life offers us a multitude of choices. When we get to the end of it, what will we list as our accomplishments; Degrees? Awards? A big bank account? , or would we be able to say, "I got to know God better just being close to Hm.

In fact in Jeremiah 9:33, God says, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom and let not a mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts, boast in this that he understandeth and knoweth Me".

How close are we to this great Saviour?

We all have deep longings and desperate hearts to know God. God has put this longing in our hearts and He identifies it. In Ecclesiastes 3:11 we read that God has set eternity in the hearts of men. He has put a longing in us for the things of eternal value. Yet very often the cares of this world; the frantic, futile, running around, makes us exhausted, leaving us no time to stay close to Him. The things of this world and its attractions draw us away from God’s presence, leaving us unsatisfied and empty.

A closer look at Mary who sat at Jesus' feet and earned the Saviour’s praise is an example of just how close God wants us to be with him. She made the best choice. She understood the joy and importance of being close to Jesus. It mattered most to her and no one in the world could stop her from this. Like Mary, if we could comprehend the sweetness of his presence, and realise that He is 'the all powerful' and the redeemer of our lives, then, nothing else would matter quite as much as knowing Him and knowing Him well. Jesus said "Remain in me and I will remain in you". Christian life is not just a set of 'do's' and ‘don’ts’; it is a day by day relationship with the loving Saviour. It is a life united with Christ. As long as we stay in tune with God, our whole perspective changes, and so do our priorities.

When we stay close to Him we find refreshment for our soul’s desires. It is where we find the depth we need. His presence always satisfies our longing hearts and makes us happy. God knows our desires; He offers Himself and His presence. If only we could draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. When we are close to Him we are able to experience His constant faithfulness, the wisdom we need, a resting place to unload our burdens, a refuge from the storm, and His almighty and comforting presence.

Are you missing God’s best today as a result of pursuing life’s fleeting pleasures? Let us learn to slow down and feast on the goodness of His presence.

As the song goes:

"The joy that comes when He is near

The rest He gives so free from fear

The hope in Him so bright and clear

Is more than tongue can tell."
