"And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him." (Gen.22:2-3)

Br. Samuel Babu, Believers Brethren Assembly, (BBA), Majlis - Bahrain For the last few days, we have been relentlessly praying for Br. Samuel Babu, who suffered Cardiac Problems and was admitted in Salmaniya Medical Complex, Bahrain. It was well pleasing for our Lord to call HIS child to the Eternal Home, where there is no pain, no sorrow, no tears, no sickness and no death. He went to be with the LORD around 10:30 PM Bahrain Time today (Friday 23rd 2015). Let us uphold the grieving family members to the Throne of Grace. May the Lord bestow upon them heavenly Grace, Peace and strength and console them with the word of God.

Bro. Vinayadas Abraham

A. Heaven:

Heaven is the final abode of all believers. Although we read a glimpse of Heaven in Chapters 20 and 22 of Revelation, its beauty, magnificence and glory is beyond the comprehension of mankind, and the Bible clearly teaches that all born-again believers will go to Heaven. Contrary to this Scriptural teaching, Jehovah’s Witnesses teach as follows:

"The Bible shows that only a limited number of persons, a 'little flock,' will go to heaven...The rest of faithful humankind will live on earth as the subjects of these rulers" (Watchtower, February 15, 1984)

By the term ‘little flock’ Jehovah’s Witnesses mean 144,000 of their “elect ones”. Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that all others except these “elect ones” will live on this earth forever. They further teach, “this earth will last forever, and it will be populated by those humans deemed righteous [Jehovah’s Witnesses] along with animals and plants, etc.” (Knowledge that Leads to Everlasting Life, p.7-11). They believe that Ecclesiastes 1:4 teaches this – “One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth forever”. It is estimated that from the creation till the year 1928 there were 77 generations (42 before Christ and 35 after). The O.T. saints with their dimly light could not comprehend the complete plans of God. Solomon with his finite mind could only talk about the continuity of generations, but the destruction of the world and future plans of the infinite God were beyond his grasp.

The teaching that this cursed world will continue for ever and that this earth will be the heaven for all the Jehovah’s Witnesses other than their “elect ones” is repudiated by the following Scriptural passage:

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up(2 Peter 3:10)

It is reiterated in Rev. 20:11 and 21:1 that the present cursed world will be destroyed. Furthermore, if Jehovah’s Witnesses base their erroneous teaching by using the words of Solomon out of context, Jesus Christ who is greater than Solomon confirmed in Matt. 24:35 and Mark 13:31 that the Heaven and earth will pass away.

The Heaven is not restricted to only 144,000 as erroneously taught by Jehovah’s Witnesses. The door of Heaven is wide open for all those who accept the Lord, to enter in as is evident from John 1:12, which reads, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). For the last 2000 years billions of people all over the world have received Lord Jesus Christ and became sons of God. Besides, right from Stephan till Graham Staines, millions of believers have been martyred for their faith in the Lord Jesus. To have excluded those genuine believers and martyrs from their confined number of 144,000 is a depraved act of Jehovah’s Witnesses and is contrary to the Word of God.

Jehovah’s Witnesses have stolen the figure 144,000 from the 7th Chapter of Revelation. If they had carried out a careful study of this Chapter they would not have come to the erroneous conclusion that this figure represents their “elect ones”. Verses 5 to 8 of this Chapter very clearly points out that these 144,000 are from the 12 tribes of Israel i.e. 12 tribes X 12,000 each = 144,000.

In a nutshell, all those who have been cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ will inherit Heaven. This world is not Heaven for here there is death, tears, sorrow, crying and pain, and in Heaven none of these will be there (Rev. 21:4). Therefore, Jehovah’s Witnesses teaching on the subject of heaven is contrary to the Word of God.

B. Hell:

Atheists, agnostics and Epicureans deny the reality of hell, and think that with death everything comes to an end. This gives them an illusion that they would be neither accountable to anyone, nor face judgement for their sinful life in this world. However, no one who has read the Bible seriously and sincerely will ever come to this erroneous conclusion. The Bible teaches that God is love but at the same time He is a Righteous Judge. He loves sinners, but hates sin and therefore His pronouncement is “the wages of sin is death”. The death referred to here is a conscious eternal punishment and separation from God. Therefore, no Bible believing person would ever deny the Judgement Seat of Christ and the reality of hell.

Strangely, Jehovah’s Witnesses who claim to be the mouthpiece of God, deny the existence of hell as a place of everlasting punishment for the wicked, and teach that death is annihilation/extinction. They argue, "The doctrine of a burning hell where the wicked are tortured eternally after death cannot be true mainly for four reasons: (a) It is wholly unscriptural; (b) it is unreasonable; (c) it is contrary to God's love; and (d) it is repugnant to justice (Let God Be True p.9). Each of these false reasons is repudiated as follows:

1). It is wholly unscriptural

This conclusion of Jehovah’s Witnesses is wrong for there are about 162 verses in the New Testament alone which speak of hell as a final eternal place of torment for those who die in their sins. As a matter of fact, Jesus Christ himself made many references to hell! Some of the Scriptural passages which prove the existence of hell are – Matt. 5:22, 5:29-30, 10:28, 18:9, 23:33; Mark 9:43-48, Luke 16:23-26, 2 Thess. 1:8 & 9, Rev. 19:20, 20:10 and 20:15.

            2). It is unreasonable

The merciful God opened the way to Heaven through the sacrificial death of His Son on the Cross, and now His gift of salvation is obtainable by any man freely. If this wonderful and free gift of God is willfully rejected by any man, then it is reasonable to cast him to hell fire for his imputed and inherited Adamic sin in addition to innumerable sins he commits in his day to day life.

3). It is contrary to God’s love/it is repugnant to justice

The same Bible that speaks of the love of God also speaks of His justice and holiness. Whilst God’s love has been manifested on the Cross of Calvary, His justice and punishment for disobedience and sin will be displayed at the lake of fire. If God had not offered the gift of salvation, it would have been appropriate to say that the existence of hell is contrary to His love. But before sending rebellious men to hell, God has shown them an escape route. Having done so, hell and eternal punishment is not contrary to His love, but in accordance with His justice and holiness.

To conclude the topic of hell – death is not extinction, hell is not an illusion and everlasting conscious punishment is a terrifying reality of God’s infinite justice upon those who willfully reject His free gift of salvation.
