"And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him." Br. Samuel Babu, Believers Brethren Assembly, (BBA), Majlis - Bahrain For the last few days, we have been relentlessly praying for Br. Samuel Babu, who suffered Cardiac Problems and was admitted in Salmaniya Medical Complex, Bahrain. It was well pleasing for our Lord to call HIS child to the Eternal Home, where there is no pain, no sorrow, no tears, no sickness and no death. He went to be with the LORD around 10:30 PM Bahrain Time today (Friday 23rd 2015). Let us uphold the grieving family members to the Throne of Grace. May the Lord bestow upon them heavenly Grace, Peace and strength and console them with the word of God.

 OLD AGE – OUR CONCERN

Allan Besterwitch

Greetings to you in the mighty name of the risen Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

I accepted the mighty Lord as my Saviour 1989, when I was working for Tata Special Steels, in Tarapur, near Mumbai, under the loving kindness and guidance of Brother Mathew Thomas, after which we shifted to Bangalore.

I was in Bangalore from May 1989 toJuly.1992, and used to fellowship with The Bethesda Assembly, and interacted with all. The Lord blessed me with this desire to serve The elderly, in Bangalore itself. When we shared God's word in '90 with an Elderly of 65, who was an alcoholic for about 40/45 yrs, he began reading God's word, gave up drinking, came to Indore in '95, accepted the Lord and was in fellowship with this assembly till his death in April 2002. This responsibility was further confirmed on 15th.Aug 1994. Since then we have been praying for this matter.

Three years ago I left my job at the post of a Deputy General Manager in a steel Hot Rolling Mill and took to teaching English and Personality Development. By God's grace, He has allowed me to progress in this field and today I teach in two high schools and a college as a Consultant.

Beside caring for the elderly at the old age home we continue to interact with the youth in schools, colleges and at home in an effort to promote the relations between the youth and the elderly. We lovingly challenge the youth to accept the responsibility of the elderly starting with Mom and Dad! The school authorities are very much in favour with our crusade as it is in line with our culture of giving utmost respect to those who are older!

The interaction with the youth is based on Leviticus 19:32 and Exodus 20:12. This teaching is a commandment of God. In Deuteronomy5:16 He commands, "Honour your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

The interaction with the elderly is based on Leviticus 19:32 and at the concluding part of life, in their senior age, we ask them to consider this question, asked by our Lord Jesus in Mathew 16:26—What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul?

In 2002 February, The Good Shepherd Home (T.G.S.H.) was started. It is a registered trust. Since then we have been interacting with the elderly. Besides the old age home activities, we visit the elderly in hospitals and we also visit elderly people who live alone.

We also interact with the elderly on the streets, sharing God's word and helping them correct their ways. One person, who was an alcoholic for 50 years, was introduced and helped by TGSH to go through the de-addiction program. Today he praises Christ our Saviour!! During the year we continue to distribute old clothes to them. We are now working with the third person who is also alcoholic. It is the Lord who provides them the determination and strength.

The plight of the elderly is a matter of great concern. We, at TGSH have the desire and are blessed to work and serve among these people who are isolated, lonely and long for companionship. T.G.S.H. comforts them with love, care, motivation and the Lord's word.

Mrs. Dorothy P. Singh, (85yrs), who completes 3 years with TGSH had given her testimony in the assembly and had expressed her desire to be baptized – first fruits for the Lord from TGSH!! After counselling by the Elders, she was baptized on the 29th of May 2007.

In an effort to generate concern and improve the relationship between the youth and the elderly, (our main and important corrective action) TGSH has just concluded its sixth school program titled: OLD AGE – YOUR CONCERN, where we lovingly challenge the student to accept the responsibility of the elders, starting with their parents. The school program for senior students – class ten to twelve – concludes with a promise taken by each student in the presence of their Principal. The promise sheet is then taken home and repeated before their parents. It is then signed by the student and presented to their parents, who in turn get it framed and hang it in a very central place, where the child will encounter it for the next eight to ten years. We have sown the seed in the very heart of the one who is The Future—The Child – the only individual who can change The Future.

Girls play a major role in later life, in the establishment and unity of a family. To emphasize and encourage them in this direction, interactive programs with senior girls are held where they are challenged to realize, appreciate and play this matured task, beyond petty and personal mind-sets.

Boys play a major role in the administration of a family and are responsible for establishing norms and practices that are influential and trend setting, especially with regard to maintaining family relationships with the parents of both sides. Our team members interact with senior boys on the streets and public places on this subject.

To make the above mentioned activities more successful we need the full support and co-operation of the elderly, so after four years of taking the message to children, for the first time we had an 'Elders Only' (not church elders!) meeting to consider and discuss the question – Are we (the elderly) unhappy because of them (the youth) or are we unhappy because of ourselves? This was discussed in detail by the elderly at the program titled – OLD AGE – OUR CONCERN. The elderly suggested many actions to pave a more friendly way and a friendlier attitude towards the younger generation.

The Government has threatened the children with serious action including confiscating property, if they do not take care of their parents. Can anyone force a relationship? This will cause more hatred between them. They will begin to even hate the Government who stopped what they were to inherit. The only way is to work on methods that can bring us closer to each other.

Well dear ones I have been very elaborate so as to give you a clear and complete picture of the concept, the development and progress, through which you can visualize the direction we are travelling. In the very near future, there are many incidents and indications, all issues related to Old Age, that will be of great concern to the family, individual and the government.

Pray for us and give some thought on how you and your friends can help us promote this. We believe that only opening of Old Age Homes will not solve the problems but a corrective action along side is most essential.

We are prepared to do more work and have several more programs, but due to the major challenge of fund shortage we move at a slower pace. However, God willing, we will continue to pray, strive and be successful.

I have enclosed a letter from Brother K. J. Koshy, our Evangelist, for your kind reference.

We are in the process of procuring our FCRA account which may take a couple of months. In the meantime funds may be sent through KEM requesting them to forward the same to us.

Thanking you with prayers and good wishes.
